Xiaomi Surpasses Apple and Huawei in Quarterly Shipment Rankings
According to the latest report from market research firm IDC, Xiaomi (1810.HK) topped the Chinese smartphone shipment rankings in Q1 2024 with 13.3 million units shipped, representing a 39.9% year-over-year increase. This far exceeded the overall market growth of just 3.3%, positioning Xiaomi as the biggest winner of the quarter.
In terms of market share, Xiaomi held 18.6%, followed closely by Huawei (12.9 million units, 18%), OPPO (11.2 million, 15.7%), vivo (10.3 million, 14.4%), and Apple (9.8 million, 13.7%). Notably, Apple was the only major brand to experience a decline, with shipments down 9% year-on-year.
IDC attributed Xiaomi’s strong performance to the brand’s growing momentum, particularly since the launch of its electric vehicle division, which has boosted overall brand recognition. The recent debut of its flagship model Mi 15 Ultra also saw record-breaking sales, contributing significantly to the Q1 results.
Industry analysts believe Xiaomi is transitioning from volume-driven growth to a quality-oriented strategy, further cementing its presence in the premium segment and setting the stage for continued momentum in the upcoming quarters.
