It will mark the first time the summit is held outside mainland China.
Sun said the hosting of the summit in Hong Kong shows that the SAR is, apart from being a hub for finance, trading and aviation, also making the mark in becoming a center for global IT cooperation.
“In fact, for the future innovation and technology industry, Hong Kong has entered the fast lane. We have clearly stated that there is a need to focus on several advantageous areas, and they’re related to digital economy,” he said.
He noted that in Hong Kong’s IT development policy blueprint, areas such as artificial intelligence, data and robots have been earmarked as focal points for development.
For his part, the conference’s secretary general, Ren Xianliang, says the summit will discuss topics such as the development of AI models, lower costs and technological innovation.
He described the introduction of AI model DeepSeek in January as changing the world’s understanding of AI, saying it’s provided different professions with unprecedented development momentum and room for creativity.
