
The Government today announced the appointments of three senior officials.
Principal Government Town Planner Tom Yip will take up the post of Director of Planning on March 18. He will succeed Ivan Chung, who will proceed on pre-retirement leave on the same day.
Chief Pilot Eddie Liu will assume the post of Government Flying Service Controller on March 13. He will succeed West Wu, who will proceed on pre-retirement leave on the same day.
Finally, Deputy Principal Solicitor Lillian Chow will become Official Receiver on March 31. She will succeed Phyllis McKenna, who will proceed on pre-retirement leave on the same day.
Secretary for the Civil Service Ingrid Yeung said: “Mr Yip, Mr Liu and Miss Chow have proven leadership and management skills, as well as profound professional knowledge. I am confident that they will be able to lead the respective departments to meet the challenges ahead.”
On the retirement of Mr Chung, Mrs Yeung highlighted his significant contributions to increasing land supply and mapping out a territorial spatial development strategy for Hong Kong, and to formulating sustainable land use strategies and plans in the Northern Metropolis and other new areas. Mr Chung has also played a key role in assisting the work of the Town Planning Board.
Mrs Yeung said that Mr Wu has contributed greatly to enhancing the efficiency and professional excellence of Government Flying Service in providing emergency search and rescue operations as well as aviation support to the community and other government departments.
She added that Ms McKenna has made sustained efforts in enhancing the efficiency and service quality of the Official Receiver’s Office, and has enhanced the image of Hong Kong by fostering international exchanges and co-operation on insolvency matters.
The civil service chief wished all three retiring officials a fulfilling and happy retirement.
